Another stupid Holdem Play

I was dying to play some poker. I played a bit Thursday night before the Red Sox game and ended up doing extremely well. Even though I realized I was running out of time as I had to get over to Fenway I still played well and cashed out in one of the two tournaments, and only because I was rushing was knocked out one position out of the money in the other tournament.

I didn’t get to play at all Friday and had stuff to do this morning. So I sat down to play some poker around 2 o’clock.

I just felt like crap. My head was hurting but I still wanted to play poker.

I started out playing ok. One 3 table SNG of NLHE (No limit Hold em) and a 1 table SNG of 7 stud.

After playing for awhile I realized, oh crap I signed up for a 2 table SNG of NHLE instead of a 3 table! LOL. That sucked because it meant less prize money, and they only payed out 4 places instead of 5 places.

Obviously I wasn’t on tip of my game.

Then the following hand came up:

Keep in mind there are 8 people left at a 9 person table as one person has already been knocked out from our table. I have T 2055 and am in second at my table.

PokerStars Game #2543362397: Tournament #12389264, Hold’em No Limit - Level III (25/50)

Lassiter: posts small blind 25
jude1: posts big blind 50
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Lassiter
K(clubs) K(diamonds)

C_Lip_7: folds
16G&H: folds
johnsand1: calls 50
Proudfoot: calls 50
dentinator: folds
MERRIE: folds

Lassiter: raises 200 to 250
jude1: calls 200
johnsand1: folds
Proudfoot: folds

FLOP
5(hearts) 8(diamonds) A(spades)

I get scared here. That ace was the last thing I wanted to see so I check and so does Jude1.

TURN
Q(hearts)

Honestly haven’t paid attention enough to know how Jude is playing. Sad I know. I should have been paying attention to know if she might slow play aces. However I decide to bet at it and see what happens.

Lassiter: bets 300
jude1: calls 300

RIVER
J(clubs)

I’m slowing down a bit here to see what is going on… So I check…

Lassiter: checks
jude1: bets 300

She only bet 300. I’m a bit curious that she didn’t bet more. I still know I’m probably beat. I can be beaten any number of ways. I never should have played this hand this far. What the hell am I doing?

Lassiter: calls 300

*** SHOW DOWN ***
jude1: shows
T(diamonds) A(hearts) (a pair of Aces)
Lassiter: mucks hand
jude1 collected 1800 from pot

So that stupid hand just cost me 850. I HATE that kind of stupid play.

I’m a freaking idiot.

Lets see if I can learn from my mistakes.

The call on the river wasn’t that bad. The way she checked and called in the previous betting rounds indicated weakness, maybe she was on a straight draw or had an 8.

She probably only bet 300 on the river because you had checked, showing weakness. She was no doubt pot committed at that point and would have called any bet so the check on your part was correct.

I think betting 2/3 of the pot on the flop would have given you the information you needed to fold on the river.
